Peaceful and Insightful Morning on Amsterdam’s Canals I joined the early morning boat tour with Captain Dave’s team, and it was an unforgettable experience! As a solo traveler, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to explore Amsterdam’s canals. Tony, our captain, was fantastic—his deep knowledge of Amsterdam’s history and culture was matched by a unique ability to connect on a human level. He wasn’t just sharing facts; he brought the city’s stories to life with genuine passion and enthusiasm, making it easy to empathize with the people and history behind the canals. The boat’s small, intimate setup was perfect for a solo traveler like me. It allowed for a peaceful and personal experience, far removed from the crowded, touristy boat tours. The early morning timing added something truly magical—calm canals, soft golden light, and a tranquil atmosphere that made me feel like I had the city to myself. This tour was an absolute highlight of my trip, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Amsterdam, whether you’re traveling solo or with a group. It’s a unique and authentic way to see the city!

Wonderful boat tour with Dave! Wonderful time! Dave had many interesting stories about Amsterdam including historical photos. Gave us restaurant recommendations too. Local guy who owns the boat. Highly recommend this small, vintage boat tour that gives you a unique experience. Very quiet on the canals in the morning.

Dave is an excellent host! His boat is very comfortable. The tour is the perfect length. A morning tour is especially nice because the canals are less crowded.

Peaceful and serene cruise Excellent trip if you want to see the city when it is quiet and just coming to life. Our Captain was Jan. Very knowledgeable and easy to speak with. Coffee, OJ and sugar bread were spread out. Highly recommend. .

Cruising the Amsterdam canals. Simply amazing. Our boat captain, Tony, was very informative on everything Amsterdam, and interacted with all of us board seamlessly. The small boat makes the trip personal. Coffee, orange juice, smoothie, or even alcohol was available, along with a small snack. I would easily do another trip if I had time. No hesitation in recommending these guys. Thank you Tony.

Best way to see the sunrise over the sleepy canals of Amsterdam. Absolutely lovely boat and captain with many interesting stories and gorgeous morning views of the just waking city. What a wonderful way to start our day's adventures.

We had a wonderful early morning boat tour with Captain Jan. He had a lot of insider knowledge about the history of Amsterdam and was very engaging. The canals are so magical, quiet and peaceful in the early morning!! We 100% recommend doing this early small tour over the big ones with dozens of people that we saw later in the day. It was definitely our favorite experience during our short Amsterdam trip. Don’t hesitate, just book this!

Amazing experience and learnt so much too Fantastic morning cruise in a beautiful boat whilst being given really interesting information about the history of Amsterdam Also had some amazing ‘bread’ that was incredible and not like anything we had eaten before but apparently Dave collects this each week so that his clients can enjoy during the tiller cruises Overall would highly recommend and well worth 90 minutes of your time whilst visiting Amsterdam

Dave was nice and very funny, very real, the tour was very informative, the food was good 🙂 everything went smoothly and the whole experience of cruising Amsterdam canals in the early morning is precious. Recommended.

A Great Way To Spend The Morning! Spending the morning on peaceful canals with a knowledgeable and entertaining guide in a gorgeous historical boat is a perfect way to start an Amsterdam holiday! Five-star experience!

The BEST boat tour in Amsterdam! Our captain for the tour was Hussain who was so friendly. He came and found us on the other side of the street as we had arrived early and were just sitting and waiting. This meant we got chance to chat to him and find out a little about the boat’s amazing history! The boat itself was beautifully furnished and had a large covered area (with windows that came down) and a small outside area at the back.There were 11 people on our trip which made it feel intimate. It also meant we didn’t have to listen to a commentary through headphones or not be able to hear it at all like on some of the larger boats. Out tour lasted 90 min and absolutely flew by. On board there were a range of drinks and some sugar bread which was nice. Captain Hussain had a great personality and told so many stories about the area and its history. We were also given some recommendations for lunch/dinner. Thank you so much for a fab time!

This was a magical experience! My mom and I joined Captain Hassan and a small group for a beautiful morning cruise. We traveled in October, so it was still dark when we arrived at the boat, but the sun quickly rose, making for gorgeous photos on the canal.
Captain Hassan was a great host! He shared many stories about the history of the boat, the city and even shared dining recommendations for the rest of our trip. The sugar bread and coffee on board was delicious! This was a great way to see the city and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Amsterdam soon!

Had such a wonderful morning boat ride with Hassan. Top bloke, super charming, friendly, knowledgeable, resourceful and very good with remembering names. We were only 5 so it was such a personalized tour. Would do it again and again.

A lovely personalised cruise - forget the big ugly commercial ventures and do this one. A great cruise, this is the one to pick if you are looking for a unique experience, friendly and great local knowledge and great story telling. A beautiful and comfortable boat, everything was done to ensure a great experience for everyone. Great morning tea as well. They even went above and beyond to ensure a few late passangers didn't miss the trip.

Much better than a big cruise A leisurely early morning cruise with Captain Tony. The captain was very friendly and knowledgeable about Amsterdam’s history. Saw lots of sights and plenty of interesting historical and current info. The old boat was beautiful and comfortable. Sugar bread and hot/cold drinks available. Would recommend to anyone.Tip - don’t worry if the boat isn’t at the meeting point. We were 10 mins early and the boat wasn’t there but arrived in time.

A small group historical canal boat tour. A great tour this morning with Captain Tony who was covering for Captain Dave. Tony lives nearby and took us for an enlightening tour manoeuvring through the narrow canals of the Jordaan, pointing out things we would otherwise have missed and has now given us a better perspective of the buildings of Amsterdam. He told us lots of stories and pointed out his usual eateries, one of which we then spent the afternoon sampling beer and watching the World go by. Dave, your beautiful boat was not harmed in any of the narrow turns. Glad I came across this gem of a tour.

We enjoyed doing this tour our first morning in Amsterdam! It made our whole trip that much better after this wonderful tour. We felt more connected to the city and loved knowing the history as we later walked the streets. It was a fantastic way to start our trip!

Wonderful historic boat and knowledgable captain! The morning canal tour with Jan as our captain was a highlight of our trip. The boat is so beautiful and historic, and perfect for a small tour of 10. Jan's knowledge of the city and canals was fantastic, and his stories about growing up there were also super interesting! The sweet bread and tea provided was delicious and perfect for a morning cruise. I highly recommend this tour!

This is a brilliant trip which I would recommend to anyone who wants to get a flavour of the life on the Amsterdam canals. Dave is an excellent captain and host who is clearly passionate about his job and enjoys sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with everyone on board. He has a great sense of humour and makes everyone feel at ease. The fact that it is a small, beautiful boat means that the experience is more personalised. I have learnt so much about the canals and housing along them, and will look at the buildings differently from now on. Thank you Dave!

My husband and I had a great time on this boat tour! We did the really informational ones in the past and enjoyed it but much preferred this early morning cruise. It felt more like being in a friends living room (on the water) with gorgeous views, great sugar bread, and nice company. I would highly recommend this boat tour!

An excellent Canal cruise! We loved the morning cruise through the canals and Jon's knowledge of the history as well more current issues in Amsterdam. Seeing the city from the water is magical. I took the morning cruise and the city was just starting to move. Captain was fun and lively.

The highlight of our week in Amsterdam! I would highly recommend starting out your trip with this tour. Its a great way to learn some history of the city. Captain Dave is a knowledgeable storyteller and kept the group engaged. There is also something really magical about floating through the city early in the morning.

Exceeded all my expectations. The city is quiet and peaceful in the morning and this tour is a great way to start the day. I’m happy we chose to do a smaller boat tour rather than a large boat; it was much more personal, wonderful food and drink, and we had a great time with Captain Dave and the other guests. We only had a short time in Amsterdam and this was definitely the highlight.

Great canal cruise Great canal cruise - more expensive than the massive commercial tourist boats but well worth the extra money. Small group of 12 people and the captain (Dave),who is very informative and very funny. We booked the early morning cruise and had free tea/coffee/orange juice/water/beer etc as well as sugar bread. Lovely relaxing cruise with a local born and bred captain who knew the local area and its history really well. Beautiful boat too! Thank you

Excellent Experience Just fantastic. Capt. Dave is a wonderful host and took us around small canals that the bigger tour boats pushed on TripAdvisor can't reach. Beautiful boat, coffee and cake provided. Excellent value.
